The setup: a war without limits
North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the South, and the conflict threatens global stability. Activision's own framing for the game is "Warfare Without Limits", and the campaign is where that framing gets tested: city-scale counterattacks, and a story the official positioning says pushes long-running storylines to a powerful and emotional breaking point.
The story continues directly from where Modern Warfare III (2023) ended: Makarov escaped, and the aftermath of Soap's death hangs over the surviving characters. How this fits the sub-series arc.
Two storylines that converge
- Private Park, a South Korean army recruit. The zero-to-hero line: a new soldier whose war starts on the worst possible day.
- Captain Price, operating outside Task Force 141 after going rogue, hunted while trying to stop the escalation. His line is the off-the-books one: unofficial, unsupported, and personal.
The two perspectives converge as the war spins out of control.
Named mission locations
The official materials name the campaign's set pieces:
- Korean trench warfare, the war's opening ground
- New York, indoor close-quarters combat
- Paris, a high-speed vehicle chase
- Mumbai, a SAS night raid
- A city-scale counterattack as the war turns
One mission, Entrenched, was playable in the open beta: a large-scale ground assault around a nuclear power plant, the first campaign mission in series history to appear in a public test. The beta recap has the context.

Two of the named locations appear in the official store gallery: the Paris vehicle chase and the Korean mountain fighting. Both read as campaign set pieces rather than multiplayer spaces, which matches the mission list above.
